Tart 13 - Tart finds the Lost City of Atlantis

Created by Kevin Joseph

A hero trying to save a doomed city. A villain causing the destruction. Tart Acid plays both parts depending upon your perspective.

All Tart 13 Rewards are shipped, except the ones that aren’t.
over 4 years ago – Sat, Oct 30, 2021 at 02:17:08 AM

I dropped off about 18 Kickstarter reward packages at the post office yesterday. It is momentous because it basically brings the fulfillment process to an end for the Tart 13 campaign.

I have to qualify these statements because not everyone’s rewards have shipped. If you haven’t received your rewards there are a few possible reasons why:

You were one of the backers shipped in the last few days. We were waiting on enamel pins until late last week, so if you were expecting a Cherry Macabre pin with your rewards, this is probably why. Feel free to message me to find out, though. I tried to add everyone’s email to Pirate Ship so you’d get tracking information, but there were a few cases where I accidentally forgot.

You are in a country The US is currently not shipping to. I tried to message everyone this applies to. Again, I’m very sorry about the delay and am trying to stay abreast of the situation so I get your rewards heading your way as soon as shipping opens back up to you.

I’ve messaged you a clarifying question through Kickstarter and have not seen a reply. If you sent one, please do not hesitate to reach out again.

Or… and by numbers this is the most likely case. You haven’t filled out your survey. Every campaign there are a few backers who do not fill out their campaign. I hold your rewards as long as I can, but after a month or so, I do stop looking for new surveys coming in. So please make sure you have filled yours out so we can get this done for real. In the future I believe I will adopt Jimmy Palmiotti's "one year policy" on surveys (after one calendar year if a survey isn't submitted the rewards are slipped back into the general stock and we all move on with our lives. But for now I have a box with rewards that need an address to arrive home.

As for what’s next, I’ll be turning my attention to planning our next Kickstarter. We are awaiting printer estimates to create a hardcover collection of Tart 4-7, the Submerged Arc. These issues are already collected in a softcover edition of Tart from Scout Comics (Tart Season One), so if you want a great tpb you can have your Local Comic Shop order it right now. But we want to also have an elegant hardcover edition to grace our reader's bookshelves.

If we get the pricing in time, we are going to try to Kickstart it before the end of the year. The printer will be overseas so it will be a longer wait, but the end result is going to be beautiful.

The goal is to match the existing Tart: Adrift Hardcover exactly. And then eventually create a hardcover for each subsequent arc of the series. When we’re done, we’ll create a slipcase that every hardcover fits perfectly in. I don’t have a clue what that will look like, but I can’t wait to see what Lido comes up with.

There were only 1,500 Adrift Hardcovers printed so we’re almost certainly going to cap the print at that number or smaller. Each additional Hardcover run will likely be set to match the number we produce here, as we don't want people to be fighting over books without a chance of creating a full hardcover collection (says the guy missing two Sandman Hardcovers out of the ten). and try to match that number each campaign going forward.

Any funding over production costs will go to production of Tart 14 and 15 to start next year. Any higher and we'll be able to start Tart 16 as well (we'll Kickstart any completed issue as a set of floppies in the next campaign so the more we can make, the better we can help defray the costs to ship to you.

More on that soon. For now, enjoy reading Tart, or if you can’t do that, contact me or FILL OUT YOUR SURVEY!!!

Oh, and have a happy Halloween.

Over 75% of the Tart 13 Kickstarter Rewards have been shipped or delivered digitally
over 4 years ago – Mon, Oct 04, 2021 at 06:46:46 PM

Last week I told you in an update that if the weather allowed I'd be driving across Florida to pick up Tart 13.

This September has been the rainiest September in South Florida that I can personally remember, so I needed to add that weather disclaimer. It also hasn't just been some light rain. It's been biblical.

But God, or Odin, or the Mad Scientist who created the weather machine must have wanted you to get your rewards, because it could not have been a more beautiful day.

I think the books turned out lovely, but I'm over the moon about the virgin split foil cover. Here's a video of how the different materials catch the light:

They're so neat : )

With help from my wife, we packed up over 100 packages that Saturday and Sunday, and I dropped them off at the Post Office Monday.

At this point any backer who backed a tier that does not come with an enamel pin (and has filled out their backerkit survey), should have books an their way to you.

Backers of the $30 tier and above (except for the $75 Catch Up Tier) will not be receiving their books just yet. The Enamel Pins are finished, but still on the other side of the world. We do not have an exact date of arrival, but the company who helped me get them made expects them in The States in three to four weeks.

If it was going to be more like two months, I was going to ship your books now, and send your pins off later. The problem with that is the pins will bot be tracked at all. So there is no way for me to help you if the pin does not make it to you

With that said, if there is a backer of those tiers in The United States who does not want to wait, please contact me and I will send all rewards except the pin now, and ship the pin later. International backers... I will also look into splitting the shipment for you, but the thought of that gives me great anxiety.

Cutting this here, as I have to look at a page in Tart 14 for Ludo, who is over halfway finished.

Pray for a dry Friday Morning
over 4 years ago – Fri, Sep 24, 2021 at 06:36:25 PM

Tart 13 exists. It is a real, tangible, hold-able, and most importantly a deliverable thing.

That does not mean I have held it yet. They are boxed up and ready to be shipped or picked up at the Printer in Fort Myers, which is only a two and a ha;f hour drive for me.

Weather permitting, I'll be dropping my daughter off at school tomorrow at 8 AM and making the trek over.  I'll get them in my car, hope to visit the Scout Comics Headquarters if possible, eat a nice lunch and drive home.

I said weather permitting because some of the storms that have exploded through South Florida these last few months have been doozies. If it is a treacherous drive, I will have them ship the books to me.  In my aged wisdom I have realized that I can ship out rewards much more efficiently next Monday if I am healthy, than I can Friday evening if I am in traction.

So if all goes well, I'll start packing up rewards this weekend.  We're still a little bit out from delivering tiers with Cherry Macabre Enamel Pins, as they have not arrived. But getting all the rewards that aren't coming with the pins delivered will mean those can be packed and shipped more quickly when the pins arrive.

I won't update you tomorrow on whether or not I received the books, but you can expect an update next week when they are actually rolling out the door.

If you want to know, tune into Explain Yourself with Will Allred and I Friday Night at 11 PM EST and I'll fill you in either way.
